Review: From the
trailer one would get interested in the movie just to find what would
happen if a young bride accidentally runs away from borders of India to
Pakistan. Would it be too grave consequences as projected by Sarjit?
Would it be like Bajrangi Bhaijaan? How the story writer will take the
story further? First half of movie is full of comedy. Few in audience
can be seen bursting into loud laughter on the punch lines. These must
be those who understand Urdu words like ‘Tashrif’. Second half should
have been able to take the movie equally or higher level of comedy.
Abhay Deol performance is good and natural. Overall it a time pass.
There will not be a regret of wasting time and money.

with him, which he does and soon marriage is fixed. However, Dharam’s

Storyline:
Are you
thinking Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge? Actually, I’ve just described
the plot Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which liberally echoes DDLJ and every
other major romance to come out of Bollywood in the last two decades. So
we get the journey, which is both literal and emotional; the friendship
that slowly shifts gears to love; the wounded looks; the teary
separation; the wedding naach-gaana.
What we don’t get is parental opposition. This is 2013 and that’s
just too old-school. Instead, writer-director Ayan Mukerji gives an
internal conflict. Bunny, played by Ranbir Kapoor, is an
adrenalin-junkie. When Naina, played by Deepika Padukone, asks him what
he wants from life, he replies: pagalpan. This is not a man willing to
settle, as he puts it, for the dal-chawal of marriage, children, home
and hearth.
It’s a perfectly valid problem but Ayan’s rendering of it is
half-baked, too long and largely unconvincing. The characters in this
film talk in Hallmark homilies so, at one point, Bunny is on a boat,
staring at the water. His colleague asks what he is looking at. He
replies, “Waqt guzarte hue dekh raha hoon.” Later in the film, Naina
teaches him the value of stopping to smell the roses. She explains that
we can’t ever do it all and the important thing is to live in the
moment.
Chasme Baddoor, a remake of the 1981 film starring Farooq Sheikh,
which opened past weekend, fits in the third category – the ho-hum.
Weighed down with the premise of “Har Ek Friend Kamina Hota Hai”,the
movie directed by David Dhawan (without his Govinda-esque flair),
crackles, pops and fizzles on borderline “LOL” material.
Omi (Divyendu Sharma), a lame impromptu-poet, and Jai (Siddharth), a
ham-actor who goes into Jim Carrey-esque paroxysms, are best evil buds
to Sid (Ali Zafar), a goody-goody boy next door with a monotone voice.
The trio, near-penniless (as college students of this type in movies
usually are), live to dupe their landlady Jospehine (Lilette Dubey) and
the owner of a local pub/restaurant Joseph (Rishi Kapoor) – who,
if judged by the similarity of their names, are a pair made in
Bollywood-heaven.
